Fall Contemplations

Happy Halloween from the girl living in a country that doesn’t really celebrate Halloween. That being said, there is a Halloween party tonight that I am expected to be at, but considering I’m coming down with a nasty cold, we’ll see how that turns out.

We are neck deep in fall out here in Germany. I turned the heater on in my room for the first time last night. I have started wearing what I call mom sweaters on the regular. This is not an insult against mom’s or sweaters. My mom sweaters are super cozy and warm and I love them. But they’re definitely the oversized type of sweater that moms wear, rather than thin or tight sweaters that young people wear in an attempt to look like they have a body shape still. LOL.

I actually had to go buy some more long sleeve shirts and a scarf though. Surprise surprise that the girl from California doesn’t have sufficient winter clothes.

I am truly loving the fall, though. Every morning has a fresh dew and leafy smell that reminds me of waking up early in the morning when camping. Everything is still and quiet and the scent of the Earth is overwhelming. It is so relaxing and I truly love it.

Soon though I’ll have to start bundling up and wearing tights under my jeans and heavy winter clothes. But for now, I get to just enjoy the fall.

I have been here for almost 3 months (I’m a few days early of the exact anniversary). It is a weird time because all of my friends here are registering for classes back home, and I’m not. I sometimes still can’t fathom the fact that I will be in Germany for a full year. August seems so far away, but my time here has flown as well.

Germany still doesn’t quite feel like home, but I have met some amazing people from all over the world and it has truly opened my eyes to the similarities in everyone; to the pure humanity that everyone has, no matter where they are from. I know I am never going to look at the world the same way again and I cannot wait to see just how much my perspective has changed and how much I have grown.

In other unrelated news, I am going to set up a Skype account so I can make phone calls through Skype, now that my WiFi seems to be functioning at least most of the time. So if you are friends or relatives who have been looking for a way to reach me, that will be possible soon.

I hope everyone has a nice fall day wherever they are and I miss you all so much.

Love, Meghan
