With Love in Rome

I really wanted to start this blog with a dreamy sigh and the word “Rome” said nostalgically, but it’s hard to convey that in a blog without doing what I have just done. In other words, Rome was wonderful. Arguably not the most beautiful of all Italian cities, because let’s face it, Rome is kind of a dirty and touristy city. But the history and culture cannot be beat.

I don’t even know where to start. I jam packed my 4-day weekend trip with so many things that it’s hard to even pick a starting place. Not only did I discover my fondness for Italian wine, but I had some of the best gelato to exist on this planet.

I did so much walking over the weekend trying to see all of the sights that by the time I got home on Sunday, I was so tired. I grabbed a quick dinner and went right to bed. But it was so, so worth it! I saw the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, and even more that I can’t list unless I want this post to go on forever. Being surrounded by so much history and culture was so incredible. It’s amazing to think about how long some of those structures have been standing, and how young my country is in comparison. It really puts things into perspective and shows how much the world has evolved and how far we can still go.

I also took a cooking class with my travel bud, Breanne. Our chef, Adri, was amazing. Because Breanne and I were the only ones who had signed up for that class, it became a private session and he showed us more advanced things than he usually does in a class. We made ravioli, pasta carbonara, eggplant Parmesan, a chicken dish whose name I don’t remember, and a delicious tiramisu! I cannot wait to make the recipes again when I’m back home and show off to friends and family.

All in all it was an amazing weekend and the perfect break from school stress, as I have a few big assignments due soon.

My last few weeks before going home will be filled with class, Christmas markets, and last adventures with friends before they go home for the semester.

I will post a bunch of pictures on Facebook so check there for more updates!
