Auf Wiedersehen, Deutschland

Helllooooooo, everyone! I know I haven’t written in awhile, but I have been immensely busy getting ready for my year long deployment to Qatar that is coming up in just a few days. This will just be a quick update before my departure, and then I plan to continue the blog while I am deployed. I probably won’t make a post everyday like my dad did when he was deployed, but I will do my best to at least do weekly posts about my happenings in the desert.

As of today, I am officially signed off on all of my predeployment requirements, and I finished my packing, so I am now in the “hurry up and wait” phase. I have been checking Qatar’s weather every day and I am so sad to announce that it is already in the 110s in Fahrenheit. I am going to melt. Or get the worst sunburn of my life repeatedly. Or both. Pray for me. What is especially cruel is that Germany is having a few weeks of beautiful weather, which is pretty unusual for mid May. Usually, its really rainy by now, but instead, its been sunny and glorious. My mom, Aunt Becky, and grandfather Pop Pop all got to experience this for their short visits last week, which was especially nice right before I leave.

I definitely have a lot of conflicted feelings about leaving and being gone for a year, but mostly, I just want to get to the base and get settled in Qatar. I know I will feel better once I can start establishing my routine out there. I’m also looking forward to planning out my midtour visit back to the States to visit the fam. I get 2 weeks off and it will line up in December, so I will get to do some early Christmas stuff in California hopefully.

I know the time will absolutely fly by, especially once I start getting busy with my job. Thats really all the update I have for now, but you will hear from me soon. If anyone would like my address, let me know and I will send it to you. Love you all endlessly!
